Cottage Cheese Cake: A Low-Fat Alternative to the Traditional Cheese Cake

There are few desserts as delicious as cheese cake. The problem with the traditional cream cheese cake however is that it is jam packed with fat and calories. An increasingly popular low-fat alternative to the traditional cheese cake is the cottage cheese cake. The cottage cheese cake is just as delicious as the traditional cheese cake but it is lower in fat and carbohydrates.
Cottage cheese cake is actually lighter and more palatable than traditional cheese cake as well since it is lower in fat. Eating traditional cheese cake can leave you feeling heavy and bloated. Cheese cake made with cottage cheese on the other hand has a lighter texture and does not leave you feeling so stuffed.
Making Cottage Cheese Cake
Making your own cottage cheese cake is fast, easy, and inexpensive. All you need is graham cracker crumbs, sugar, flour, sugar, cinnamon, butter, vanilla extract, salt, lemon juice, milk and obviously some cottage cheese. The crust is made by melting butter and stirring in the graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and cinnamon and then patting this mixture onto the sides and bottom of your pie dish.
The mixture for the cottage cheese cake is made by blending all of the ingredients in a food processor or blender until smooth. Then all you have to do is pour the mixture into the pie crust and stick it an oven preheated to 325 degrees and bake it for an hour or until the mixture is firm. The pie will be wobblier than your typical cheese cake but it will start to get firmer once you let it sit and cool off.
You can also change the flavor of the cottage cheese cake by adding lemon zest or fresh berries to the mixture. You can add fresh blackberries to the mixture and blend it to make a berry swirl cheese cake. You can also serve the cake with a fruit topping. Cottage cheese cakes are not as sweet as your typical cheese cakes made of cream cheese so make sure the fruits you use are very ripe and sweet.
So why not try making a cottage cheese cake? It is a delicious dessert that can serve as a low-fat alternative to the heavier, traditional cheese cake. Cheese cakes made with cottage cheese are also very versatile because you can experiment and change their flavor by adding different fruits to the mix or as toppings. If you want a delicious dessert without all the fat and calories, cottage cheese cake is an excellent option.
